NEW YORK, NEW YORK, USA, September 15, 2022 / — New York Festivals® The Advertising Awards has announced the DE&I Award winners selected by the NYF DE&I Advisory Board.

The six-person DE&I Advisory Board, chaired by Destiny K. Chambers, Vice President, Chief Marketing Officer, Lippe Taylor, jointly selected the winning entries for the 2022 DE&I Award. The Advisory Board ensured that all entries were judged fairly and thoughtfully using the 4R framework created by P&G.

The New York Festivals DE&I Awards recognize work, individuals and organizations that take meaningful steps to create a more diverse, equitable and inclusive society. The awards celebrate work that supports, protects, represents and uplifts historically underrepresented groups.

The DE&I winners of the 2022 New York Festivals Advertising Awards include:

• GOLD – “Tough Turban” Zulu Alpha Kilo for Pfaff Harley-Davidson

• SILVER – Wunderman Thompson Argentina “Inclusive Degree” for Unilever

• BRONZE – “Micropedia of Microaggressions” Zulu Alpha Kilo for Black Business and Professional Association,

Toronto Metropolitan University Diversity Institute, Canadian Congress on Inclusive Diversity and Equality in the Workplace, Pride at Work Canada

Zulu Alpha Kilo’s gold-winning ‘Tough Turban’ used innovative thinking to solve a unique problem, developing an alternative to the motorcycle helmet. With its groundbreaking use of materials science and empathy for the wearer’s freedom of cultural expression, Tough Turban has ensured that Sikh motorcyclists no longer have to choose between their beliefs and their safety. The agency also won a bronze award for “Micropedia of Microaggressions,” a non-judgmental online tool providing easy-to-digest information where people can unlearn their unconscious biases and make immediate changes in their everyday interactions with others.

“We are honored to have our creative efforts within DEI recognized for their impact. Hopefully the work in this category inspires other marketers to make more progress with their DEI initiatives. —Zak Mroueh, Creative Director and Founder, Zulu Alpha Kilo

Wunderman Thompson Argentina won the Silver DE&I Award for its innovative “Degree Inclusive” campaign to launch Unilever’s first adaptive deodorant. “Degree Inclusive” has revolutionized the design of deodorants to include everyone, but they are able to move. The product was co-created with the disability community to design a deodorant that is easier to handle, easier to identify, easier to open and close, and easier to apply.

“It’s an honor for Wunderman Thompson, especially for WT Argentina. Diversity, equity and inclusion are core values for us, which makes this award even more special. Many people around the world from WT and Unilever worked on this campaign which took over two years to come to fruition. Today we are happy to say that was just the beginning as we are still working to grow this idea. It was wonderful to see how the development of this project has succeeded in connecting different people with different abilities, from diverse regions and time zones, working alongside communities with disabilities, all to keep pushing to make the world a more inclusive place to live. From this perspective, recognition of this effort by the DE&I Advisory Board demonstrates that this effort is headed in the right direction. Thank you very much.”—Victoria Cole CEO Argentina and Chile, Wunderman Thompson
