The actress’ husband, John Easterling, announced her death on his Facebook page on Monday afternoon (August 8).

“Dame Olivia Newton-John (73) passed away peacefully this morning at her Southern California ranch surrounded by family and friends,” the post read.

“We ask everyone to respect the privacy of the family during this very difficult time.”

Easterling continued: “Olivia has been a beacon of triumphs and hope for over 30 years, sharing her journey with breast cancer.”

“Her healing inspiration and pioneering experience with plant medicine continues with the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund, dedicated to plant medicine and cancer research.”


‘Grease’ star Barry Pearl gets emotional in TV interview paying tribute to his late co-star

Barry Pearl – who played the T-bird and Frenchy’s boyfriend Doody in the hit musical film – paid tribute to his friend and co-star.

During an interview on BBC Radio 4 Today on Tuesday, August 9, Pearl became emotional as he recalled writing a letter to Newton-John only a week ago.

The actor said he decided to write to her after hearing from a colleague that Newton-John was “failing again” when it came to his illness and suggested “it won’t be long” until his death.

“I took it upon myself to write to him, as we sometimes shared e-mails between us and [with] The other Fat-er friends too,” he explained.

“She always signed her emails, ‘With love and light, Olivia.’ And I wrote to her – basically, if you read between the lines, she’d be able to tell that I knew something was going on – and I basically told her that, ‘On your way forward , just know that you, Olivia, are the love and the light.’

“She always exuded that positivity. Just how gracefully she handled this trip. His heart was so big.
